Growing Occupational Health in the NHS – “What did Boorman ever do for us?”

Dr Steve Boorman to help kick off the agenda of the NHS Health at Work Conference 2021

Empactis will have a strong presence at this year’s NHS Health at Work Network Conference at Chesford Grange on 14th-15th September 2021.

Our employee health director Dr Steve Boorman is well known in NHS workforce health circles as the author of the landmark “Boorman Review” published in 2009.  Twelve years on, his story of its development and learnings will help set the scene for an important NHS event focused on Growing Occupational Health.

The Boorman Review established a clear and unequivocal connection between improved staff health and better patient care.

Further, it showed how it could generate a raft of other organisational benefits, including ranking better on regulatory measures for efficiency and quality of care.

Occupational Health plays a vital role – yet is too often considered a ‘back office’ function of last resort in workforce healthcare.

Changing this is not only a cultural issue but brings many practical challenges. The urgency of meeting these has been intensified with COVID and the growing realisation of the employer pressures that long COVID may bring.

Among the practical issues are how NHS Trusts organise, share and utilise data about employee health, and collaborate between HR, health and wellbeing and Occupational Health teams.

This is a challenge that Empactis is setting out to meet with our Health Manager software, a key element of our wider Employee Health Management System.

Our experts will be on hand at the conference to share and show what it can do to help Occupational Health teams to integrate, collaborate and operate effectively with their Trust colleagues.
